What is Flash-Brake?

Flash-Brake is Aaron and Ben Krieger, a father and son team working to manufacture the highest quality tools in the metal roofing industry. With decades of experience in design and tool manufacturing, we are committed to raising the bar for roofing tools. All of our products are designed, manufactured, and assembled in the USA at our shop in south Florida to our strict quality standards and specifically for the metal roofing industry. We work directly with several local roofing contractors as we design, test, and refine our tools to make sure that they meet the specific needs of the professionals who install metal roofs every day. That is what makes Flash-Brake Professional Tools for Professional Roofers!

How Flash-brake started

Flash-Brake began when a roofer came into the shop Aaron was working in with a very crude tool asking if he could make more. The tool was fairly simple but not very well made, with an inconsistent slot that had warped because the handle had been welded onto it. The roofer explained that it was a tool used for bending the eave edge of standing seam metal roofs and that he needed someone to make the blades and that he would weld handles onto them. Aaron told him that he could make the blades, but that welding the handle would cause the slot to widen at the welded area and that eventually the weld would fail. He offered to make a handle that would bolt onto the blade rather than being welded, but the roofer wasn’t interested.

Aaron made the blades and delivered them but he also made a set with his original idea for the handles. He didn’t know it at the time, but those tools would be the first run of the original Flash-Brake roofing tools. He kept them in his car and would stop to show them to roofers any time he saw them at a job site. After seeing the tools many of them were using and how impressed they were with his tool he began to believe that there might be an opportunity for a business that could make better roofing tools. He brought it up with Ben and they have since worked together to develop solutions to problems facing the roofing industry.

Bad at Being Retired

Aaron has known that he was going to be a machinist for the rest of his life since he first started learning about it at 14 years old. He then spent the next several decades devoted to the trade, ultimately starting and running his own machine shop manufacturing everything from tooling, to medical equipment, to military and aerospace components for over 40 years before finally selling his business in early 2017. He then spent the next few years riding his motorcycle around before finally realizing that the rest of his life included retirement so he wasn’t done being a machinist. Now he spends his time working with his son, helping with the design and manufacturing process for the Flash-Brake product line.

Ben Krieger

Didn't Need Weekends Anyway

After growing up in his dad’s shop, the only thing Ben was certain of at 14 years old was that he didn’t want to work for his dad. His dad always wanted him to be an engineer, so after high school he went to college for engineering, got a degree in economics, and eventually began working in accounting and finance. After nearly a decade of working in business he was weighing his next career move when his dad approached him with the idea for Flash-Brake. He decided that, while he couldn’t work for his dad, he could work with his dad and that starting a new business was a challenge he was ready for. Now he spends his weekends designing and making Flash-Brake tools and writing “About Us” sections for his website.
